Staying Safe

health and safety Apr 20, 2021

There are few constants in our world. Not least in this last year. You never know what will come next or what the future holds. Staying safe and living every moment has never been more important.

Staying safe has a different meaning for everyone. Protecting yourself, protecting loved ones and protecting all that is around you. Using different characteristics, mindset, processes and strengths from within or from all around.

Challenges

The people around you come and go. Work and clients change and push you due to their own battles and challenges and thanks to everything that happens around you each day, you grow and evolve.

Challenges to your safety come in many forms. At work, at home, personally or professionally and whatever and from wherever; and with that everyone needs somewhere to feel they are always safe.

One day at a time, taking on and fighting every battle and every challenge as they appear.

Something constant

Today marks fifteen years in my safe place.

Is this what Hibernating feels like?

Uncategorized Jan 31, 2021

January is the longest month most years but 2021 feels like its been supercharged. Short days, lack of light, very grey and cold, added to isolation and little contact? It must be what hibernating feels like.

There are so many cycles around us and hibernating and the seasons is just one of them. When we go through the seasons we can’t jump straight from Autumn to Spring. We have to go through the full cycle.

Winter is such an important time for the world around us. Trees and plants die down and rebuild energy for new growth, animals hide away to keep warm, and many cultures even have celebrations during winter of light over darkness.

It is a really important time.

Time out

Just like hibernating, taking time out to reflect can be such a good thing. Over the last year there have been waves of emotions and change and the greatest thing I have noticed people do is to accept that change is happening. While so much is out of our control only focusing on what we can control is hugely...

Winnie the Pooh Day

Every year there are a number of days that inspire me, today is one of them. A day that itself is inspired by something very special in my world - today is Winnie the Pooh day.

It is such a different world since last Winnie the Pooh day.

While so much around us is changing and evolving so quickly; recognising the things that matter is more important than ever.

Winnie the Pooh

Winnie the Pooh day marks the anniversary of the birth of Alan Alexander Milne in 1882. A A Milne served in the British Army in both World Wars and an injury he sustained in the Battle of the Somme clearly had an impact on him for many years. Outside of the Army he was a writer.

The A A Milne we know best is the creator and author of Winnie the Pooh. He created a world and characters for stories for his son, Christopher Robin Milne. That fictional world has become quite a legacy.

In previous years I have reflected on messages and inspiration from the books. This year is no different.

A Year Like No Other!

Uncategorized Dec 31, 2020

Love it or loathe it, I’m sure everyone can agree - 2020 really has been a year like no other. Last New Year, I remember thinking of all the different 20:20 vision messages and quotes I could come up with.

Well 2020! Who knew!

Nothing could prepare me for what was to come and the clarity and change of perspective that would come with it.

2020

I was so excited for what lay ahead. My diary was full, I was looking forward to retreats and conference and travel and…

Little did I know…

Six days into the new year I was in A&E with a broken toe, six weeks later my diary emptied of all of my work over night. And then, a few more weeks after that, COVID-19 shut the world down.

Scared

For all the rollercoaster times I have gone through in business, when lockdown arrived I was scared. I had no idea what was coming next, and was numb for a short while with no idea what to do. They were the most unprecedented times. How I have now got fed up of hearing that word as...

Christmas Eve

Uncategorized Dec 24, 2020

December 24th, Christmas Eve. Theres an eerie quiet outside as the day hasn’t quite woken up yet.

This year is very different for many people. Plans have changed, families that would usually be together aren’t this year. The last 24 hours areas close to me have suffered flooding as well.

Christmas is a strange time for many, it’s not my favourite time of the year but this year, like many before - I will have fun.

What ever you are up to, whoever you are sharing your Christmas with, or if like me you are home alone - we will all be ok.

My fridge is stocked, Christmas films are ready to be watched and memories will be made

Whatever your plans, stay safe, have fun and I wish you a very Merry Christmas

One More Week...

Erm… Really?

One more week till Christmas and that means not many days to get all sorts of stuff done. Not just for Christmas!

I have been a little quiet on here. The last few weeks, well months if I’m honest, have really flown. So of course that means that ‘one more week’ will fly too.

2020 really has been a different year and December is not as many love it to be.

That doesn’t mean that we can’t have fun though.

Whatever you are up to, whenever you finish work, there is every reason to enjoy Christmas and the magic of this time of year. Health and safety never needs to be used as an excuse, take a look at The HSE’s 12 Myths of Christmas for some of their previous stories busting Christmas myths.

WIth one more week to go there is still work to be done here, it’s not quite time for the out of office or reflections of 2020 just yet.

So as ever, stay safe and if you need help or support – I’m here…  ...

Armistice Day

rememberance days Nov 11, 2020

At the 11th hour, of the 11th day of the 11th month, 1918 – in a small clearing near Compiègne the Allies and Germany met. The Armistice was signed signalling the end of World War 1.

Today, over a hundred years later, as the clock strikes 1100 this Armistice Day – let us all remember.

Remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedom we know today, and all those who continue to serve.

Lest We Forget.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Time to Change the Clocks!

As it is time to change the clocks this weekend, I can’t help but think this time has arrived very quickly this year.

Every year I reflect on a few things to remember to do at the same time as changing the clocks. This year though I can’t quite believe it’s that time already.

2020 might have been a very different year in so many ways to the last few; but boy, have the last few months gone quickly…

Changing times

This October as every year, the seasons are changing, the leaves are falling and the days are getting shorter. As we change the clocks this weekend, it’s time again to remember to carry out a few other checks around the home, office and car that keep us all safe too.

Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Detectors

This is a great time to make sure your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors are working. While you’re there, if you don’t change the batteries – check the types of batteries they take and make sure you have replacements on hand.

The Happiest of Birthdays!

winnie the pooh Oct 13, 2020

Where would my world be without my favourite bear and all of his friends. Today I am wishing Winnie the Pooh the happiest of birthdays

I am never far away from a reminder of him. So much is his impact on my world, it rubs off on the people around me too. People are always contacting me and letting me know how much they love him too.

Grand adventures

Winnie the Pooh and his friends have been part of my world for a very long time. Not only did his home inspire the name of my own business but our adventures have been well documented in this blog over the years.

Winnie the Pooh and all of his friends have taught us about health and safety. A few years ago we celebrated his 90th birthday and we headed on a grand adventure to the real Hundred Acre.

He had his own party at the V&A, and then there just last year there was an adventure further afield to the home of his inspiration too.

A special little bear

I know I am not alone in being so happy this bear of little brain...

Out and About

hundred acre Oct 08, 2020

The last piece of work in my diary before lockdown was training. Sadly that course never managed to happen. Now, seven months have passed by and this week, finally, I have been back out and about doing what I love. Three days of face-to-face training.

Delivering training

This week I have been at Woodland Grange, a beautiful training centre in Warwickshire. I have been there a few times and when this opportunity came up, I didn’t need to be asked twice.

While for a few months, I have been back to visiting clients most weeks. Beyond that I have barely been out and about or left the house for much else. This has been my way of doing what I needed to do, to stay safe for me and for my clients.

A great week

Packing my bags and heading off was definitely a strange feeling. Our world is different, going back is not an option. Though nor is staying locked away and doing nothing.

I am delighted to say it has been a great week.

My delegates loved the course, they came from quality...
