Armistice Day is a day to remember those who gave their lives in all wars. It’s also a day to honour the new generation of veterans who need our support.
This year, The Royal British Legion launched their poppy appeal with the tag line Live On: To the Memory of the Fallen and the Future of the Living. Just as it’s important to remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, we couldn’t agree more with this sentiment at Hundred Acre.
Earlier this year, Bridget Gilmour, the founder and director of Hundred Acre, took some time to reflect on Somme100; 100 years since the Battle of the Somme. Having visited the area of Northern France a few years ago, Bridget reflects: “The Battle of the Somme wounded and killed over a million men, and the first day of the battle remains the bloodiest day in the history of the British Army. Considering the time we’re now in, as these significant anniversaries occur it seems right and proper that we now not only remember those who sacrificed everything for us, but also those who still do today.”
On Armistice Day, and again on Remembrance Sunday, we at Hundred Acre will take a moment to reflect and to remember. We will remember them. We hope you will too.
Lest we forget. X
