A Day to Remember: Armistice Day

rememberance days Nov 09, 2018

This year as we mark Armistice Day and remember; we would like to join the Royal British Legion as they lead the country in saying thank you. Thank you to all who have served, sacrificed and changed our world.

This year 2018 marks 100 years since the Armistice was signed between the Allies and Germany at a clearing near Compiègne ending World War 1.

A few years ago Hundred Acre’s Founder and Director, Bridget Gilmour visited some of the areas of France that will forever be remembered in the history of World War 1. We would like to reflect on Thiepval, a memorial that commemorates more the 72,000 men with no known grave.

Also Vimy Memorial, commemorating over 11,000 Canadian men killed during World War 1, who also have no known grave.

There are many stories and places to reflect and remember the Great War. The war that many thought would end all wars. There have been many and continue to be more wars in the 100 years that have passed since 1918. This year we would like to remember and thank all those who have and continue to serve for our freedom.

Our final picture, from the Tower of London in 2014, a day Bridget very proudly, will never forget.

Today and every day we will remember them and at 11:00 on the 11th of November we will unite with the Royal British Legion, the custodians of Remembrance, and silently remember.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
