We’ve talked before about how much we love June; it’s one of those months where lots of things happen and all sorts of adventures take place. We’ve got plenty going on this month and it looks like every single day will be full of the things we love.
Our highlights this month will include attending an Equality and Diversity training course at IOSH and presenting a vice presidency update at the IOSH Chiltern branch. It won’t all be about work in our Hundred Acre world though, as we eagerly await the 86th 24 Hours of Le Mans, an event which will always hold a very special place in our hearts.
We can’t talk about June without mentioning June 6th; Hundred Acre’s founder and director, Bridget Gilmour’s birthday. June 6th was also her grandma’s birthday and a very significant day in our history; D-Day.
74 years ago, on 6th June 1944, allied forces carried out operations intended to safely secure an area of Northern France as part of World War II’s Operation Overlord. Bridget has visited the area many times, learning about the significance of the day and the events that followed. The stories she heard from veterans while visiting the beaches, museums and special anniversary events will always be something she cherishes.
There are many different awareness days being enjoyed today across in the UK and beyond. Our particular favourite is New Year’s Resolution Recommitment Day. Did you vow to yourself that you’d stop or start doing something this New Year? If you’ve fallen off the wagon, today’s the day to start over. It’s also Heimlich Manoeuvre Day, Go Barefoot Day, Dinosaur Day and Dare Day – it’s seems there’s something for everyone!
There are plenty of month-long campaigns too this June, including Great Outdoors Month, which we need no excuse to enjoy, National Fresh Fruit and Veg Month to help us stay healthy and National Safety Month, which is a year-round focus for us.
Other events to consider are LGBT Pride Month, International Men’s Month, Men’s Health Week, Father’s Day and Trooping the Colour. For those of you who have the welfare and safety of a workforce to consider, the Safety and Health Expo will also be taking place at ExCel London.
These long days in the middle of the year always make us happy and eager to make the most of every day. We hope this post has made you think of ways to celebrate June, regardless of whether you want to get involved in any of the day, week or month campaigns or not. It’s a happy time of year that we’d love you all to embrace.
Our ancestors worked so hard to enable us to live the life we live now, and we will forever be grateful. At Hundred Acre, we feel the least we can do to carry on their legacy is to ensure everyone gets home from work every day in the same mental and physical state as they arrived in.
