Every year there are a number of days that inspire me, today is one of them. A day that itself is inspired by something very special in my world - today is Winnie the Pooh day.
It is such a different world since last Winnie the Pooh day.
While so much around us is changing and evolving so quickly; recognising the things that matter is more important than ever.
Winnie the Pooh day marks the anniversary of the birth of Alan Alexander Milne in 1882. A A Milne served in the British Army in both World Wars and an injury he sustained in the Battle of the Somme clearly had an impact on him for many years. Outside of the Army he was a writer.
The A A Milne we know best is the creator and author of Winnie the Pooh. He created a world and characters for stories for his son, Christopher Robin Milne. That fictional world has become quite a legacy.
In previous years I have reflected on messages and inspiration from the books. This year is no different.
The characters demonstrate so many emotions and feelings. Depression, apathy, anxiety to name but a few. Many that a lot of us are struggling with through lockdown. All the emotions are mixed together in stories and adventures along with different behaviours and characteristics. Whether you recognise dependable, enthusiast or perfectionist, or you just want to be lost in the world of Hundred Acre for a little while. There is something for everyone.
What I am always drawn back to in the stories is the continued support; no one is ever left out or ignored. Every one matters and everyone is included in the adventures.
We might be running a little low on adventures for now but we can all keep dreaming. I for one cannot want to play Pooh sticks, enjoy a birthday party or head off on an expotition, like so many grand adventures I have been on before. I’m sure I am not alone.
In my corner of Hundred Acre, I think it might be time for a smackeral of something. To everyone who has made it this far - stay safe.
We will all get through this and we will all be together for adventures again soon 💚
