Our Founder and Director, Bridget Gilmour, shares her thoughts from the recent Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) Professional Development Conference (PDC)….
I’m home from Niagara, PDC done, memories made, and as my favourite bear says,
‘How lucky am I to have something that makes saying goodbye so hard.’
Even before I’d packed my bags and left home I knew I was heading to the best place for me. Since 2008 the CSSE conference has been part of my calendar. This year after a few long months heading to Niagara felt like I was going home. The messages that flew around from friends asking when I arrived, what I was doing. They had no doubt over whether I would be there, and I couldn’t wait to be.
Close to 750 people came together in Niagara Falls. Many friends and this year a record number of new people to meet. There were an amazing 237 first timers this year’s event. I also found out I was one of the 9% of attendees that...
The world turns fast and if you are someone who pushes boundaries, puts your head above the parapet and stretching the comfort zone has become the norm; something constant and safe can be very comforting.
Next week sees this year’s Canadian Society of Safety Engineering (CSSE) Professional Development Conference (PDC). While this isn’t the only conference taking place next week it’s the one we are attending, and we will be heading to Niagara Falls.
The CSSE PDC has been part of our calendar since 2008. An amazing opportunity to learn and after so many years, a chance to catch up with great friends from around the world too. Take a look at last year’s PDC highlights.
“I love this conference”, says Hundred Acre’s Founder and Director Bridget Gilmour. “It holds a very special place in my heart as it was after my first visit to Quebec City, that my Hundred Acre adventure began full time. Returning to Canada and Niagara Falls feels like...
As the weekend approaches, we’re thinking of our friends and colleagues in Canada who have a long weekend of celebrations ahead of them. This Sunday, 1st July, Canadians across the world will be celebrating Canada Day; the day in which Canada became fully independent in 1867.
Having travelled to Canada for CSSE Conference every year since 2008, the significance of this holiday has become more apparent for Hundred Acre’s founder and director, Bridget Gilmour. “I’ve seen the importance of this holiday first-hand, so I know how much it means to Canadians. For me, Canada Day is a great reminder that the CSSE Annual Professional Development Conference isn’t far away, so it marks the start of my countdown.”
With our thoughts turning to Canadian friends and colleagues this weekend, we thought we’d remind all eligible CSSE members to cast their vote in the 2018 Board of Directors election. It’s your last chance today as voting closes at 5pm...
After another amazing and truly inspiring CSSE Professional Development Conference (PDC), Hundred Acre’s founder and director, Bridget Gilmour, couldn’t wait to tell us all about it.
“The entrance to Vancouver’s beautiful Stanley Park looked stunning from my hotel room window every morning. I imagine many people wouldn’t understand why I only managed to walk around the parks harbour wall once, but my time was limited thanks to the fantastic sessions planned by this year’s PDC planning committee. The content of these sessions were so engaging that it was really difficult to decide which of the 40+ to attend.
“Being at the CSSE PDC has been an integral part of my year since I first attended in 2008. Many people know the significance of that week in Quebec City on my Hundred Acre world and this last year’s visit, my 9th PDC, has also been exceptional. There are so many highlights to recall and it’s going to take quite a time to...
In a fast moving and ever-changing world, few things are constant. For ten years though, one thing has been firmly set in our calendar: the CSSE conference. We’re just home from this year’s conference feeling inspired and motivated, if a little bit jet-lagged!
From the opening ceremony to the closing words and everything in between, this year’s CSSE PDC was a fantastic success, and a place where many memories were made.
“Wherever you are on your personal journey, the key messages or learnings you take away from a conference will vary.” Explains Bridget, Hundred Acre’s founder and director. “What’s important is taking time to consider, apply, reflect and discuss what you’ve heard and learnt. This year, I’ve done that by the bucketful.”
Returning to Halifax, Nova Scotia, completed a full circle for Bridget. When the CSSE conference was last held in Halifax, it was 2010 and our Hundred Acre world was very different....
Everyone has milestones of the year they look forward to, the events that are added to a diary from one year to the next. The CSSE Professional Development Conference (PDC) is one of those highlights of the year for Hundred Acre’s founder and director, Bridget Gilmour. The annual trip to Canada to be amongst the foremost health and safety professionals in the world and be inspired is simply too great an opportunity to miss.
Having just returned from the 2015 conference, Bridget is keen to talk about the week, despite the jetlag: “I always meet so many inspirational people at conference; both speakers and delegates. Sharing stories as health and safety professionals always interests and inspires me, and I never stop learning from them.”
The CSSE PDC is about so much more than talking though. From Sunday to Wednesday, delegates attend keynotes, workshops and presentations, learning about new topics, development of standards, hearing stories...
