Since this blog started New Year has been a time for reflection. This year the prospect of writing this weighed heavy, that was until our Founder and Director Bridget Gilmour started to type. This year has been an interesting one. Politics has taken over our world. We have no idea what the future holds and there have been challenges beyond belief.
Over to Bridget….
“Even sat talking with friends as Christmas drew close many commented that my year had not been good. I knew what they meant! Some challenges take over when you are going through them and looking back at the year it felt the same.
Yet sitting to ponder, reflect and type – letting negativity take a back seat – oh wow… 2018 – you have actually been the most amazing year! This year has been a year of change, a year of adventures, and most importantly a year of being truer and more authentic than ever.
Professionally I keep growing. In September I presented the IOSH No Time To Lose...
A note from Bridget Gilmour, our Founder and Director, reflecting on her recent retreat and making the most of living in the moment in her Hundred Acre world.
“As I write this, I am sat on a BA flight heading home from the most incredible retreat that comes at the end of an amazing few weeks. 2018 has bought several milestone moments in my Hundred Acre world. As the highs get higher and the odd side swiping low that has come along has bumped me back to somewhere else. It’s a strange thing when it happens, and the reality is that it does and it can at times not feel very nice.
The last few weeks my world has taken a turn as I have shifted my focus. A month ago, I went on a retreat taking time out to work on me. Walks, meditation, visions boards and a whole host of work on my ‘gremlins’. Spending time with likeminded women, enjoying fabulous home cooked food and lots of laughter. After that my world and emotions were a huge amount lighter.
Since then the love...
Earlier this month Hundred Acre Ltd celebrated its tenth Birthday. Whilst many things have changed over the past decade, one thing has always remained the same: our mission to help everyone get home healthy and safe at the end of every working day.
Our Founder and Director, Bridget Gilmour, shares her thoughts and plans for the future…
Today is the last day of our financial year so marks the end of the tenth year of our Hundred Acre world. Throughout August we have looked back over what has been an amazing year and decade and reflected on there being so much to our Hundred Acre world.
Tomorrow sees a new day, a new month, a new decade and as our safe place keeps evolving we are very excited for a new chapter for our Hundred Acre adventures.
In 2018 Hundred Acre is a long way from where it was when it was first incorporated in 2008. The company name was changed as there is so much more than just safety and then Everyone’s Safe...
This Saturday, August 18th, Hundred Acre celebrates its 10th birthday. Our Founder and Director, Bridget Gilmour, shares her thoughts to mark this special occasion.
Whilst many things have changed over the past decade, one thing has always remained the same: our mission to help everyone get home healthy and safe at the end of every working day.
A Message from Bridget…
This Saturday, August 18th, my Hundred Acre world turns ten. Many businesses don’t make their first year, or third or fifth – ten is something to celebrate. Upon reflection, I’m not sure where those years have gone. Though wow, how proud am I!
So much has happened. There have been sticky moments, heartbreak and individuals who have challenged. Though as I write this I’m smiling to think of the nearly 100 businesses I’ve supported, the friends I’ve made and that even though at times it was uncomfortably tight every bill has been paid. I can reflect on how many...
Next week, on the 18th August, Hundred Acre turns 10, so we thought now was a good time to reflect upon our history. The past ten years have been amazing, and the business keeps evolving, yet one thing has always remained the same: our mission to help everyone get home healthy and safe at the end of every working day.
Health and safety is the only world Bridget has worked in. 2008 proved to be a long year for Bridget and she was desperate to find another job. She loved her work though didn’t enjoy her job. For all the applications and interviews sadly no new role became hers.
Founding Hundred Acre
This time ten years ago, a nervous Bridget began a journey she’d pondered for a while. On August 18th 2008, Hundred Acre was incorporated. And so began work on a consultancy of her own.
“I didn’t quite know what I was going to do.” Explains Bridget. “I had no clients and no savings to live off, but I had a passion for the job I did, and I needed to make...
It’s been a while since we talked about what we do in our Hundred Acre world, so we thought we’d refresh your memory. Hopefully you’ll know that we’re an occupational safety and health consultancy, but chances are you probably don’t know how that transpires into the services we offer.
First and foremost, Hundred Acre is our safe place. It has been since 2008, and our vision is to make it everyone’s safe place. By spending time with your key personnel and truly understanding your business, we’re able to deliver bespoke, flexible health and safety solutions that fulfil your legal obligations and ensure everyone returns home from work in the same physical and mental state as they arrived.
Most of the time our work with clients starts with an audit, which looks at your people, property and processes. We’ll visit your workplace, talk to your staff and take a look around your premises. We’ll discuss the health and safety...
Can you believe the first half of 2017 is drawing to a close? We’re struggling to get our heads around it here in our Hundred Acre world, though looking back, we’ve packed a lot into the first six months.
So far, 2017 has been amazing. We’ve been working with new and established clients, developing and implementing safety management systems and delivering training courses. We’ve also been answering and supporting as many organisations as we can with their questions, as well as building relationships with other like minded businesses, some of which we’ll be talking about soon.
Bridget, Hundred Acre’s founder and director, has continued to love what she does and has really embraced her role as VP of IOSH. Needless to say there have been a few adventures along the way for Bridget so far this year, and she’s looking forward to more as 2017 progresses!
As the calendar turns to July this weekend, we’ll be thinking of our ASSE...
Never one to shy away from a new experience, Hundred Acre’s founder and director, Bridget Gilmour, jumped at the chance of being interviewed for a podcast by Miss Make It Happen, Dee Atkins.
Motivational VA, Dee, loves to give businesses a voice through podcasts and felt it was time to interview someone who’s passionate about a topic that often people don’t want to discuss; health and safety. “We’re all a little bit guilty of ‘it’ll never happen to me’,” explains Dee, and she’s right. Too often businesses are reactive rather than proactive when it comes to the wellbeing and safety of their employees.
One of the first things Bridget mentions is that she’s “always been a woman in a man’s world,” which prompts the discussion about why Bridget became interested in health and safety in the first place. You’ll also find out the story behind the company name and hear just how personal the business and...
On this day last year (11th May 2015), we posted our first Hundred Acre blog post. What a year it’s been! Since our welcome post, our blog has gone from strength to strength, receiving industry recognition and praise from companies worldwide.
We’re delighted that our most popular post was “What can Winnie the Pooh teach us about Health and Safety?” because it really does reflect Hundred Acre. We want everyone to understand health and safety legislation and how different personality types react to policies and procedures. It seems the analogy of comparing individuals in an organisation to the characters of Hundred Acre Wood really has helped people understand personality types in their workplace much better, which we’re thrilled to hear.
For Hundred Acre’s founder and director, Bridget Gilmour, one of the most exciting blog posts was the Winnie the Pooh post as it means so much to her, though undoubtedly the “Chartered Fellowship...
Welcome to the new website for Hundred Acre.
Since Hundred Acre was incorporated in 2008 things have kept changing and evolving. This new website is part of that. We like to think our website is a little bit different and that’s because we’re different. When we talk about health and safety, we really do mean health as much as safety. Our mission is for everyone to go home at the end of the day in the same physical, mental and emotional state as they arrived.
Throughout the site you’ll find information about us and our services and this blog will be our way of keeping you informed about all-things health and safety. News, views, thoughts and opinions from our Hundred Acre world and beyond.
Although we hope you find this information useful, we truly believe the best way to see how we can help is to get in touch. Peace of mind is not far away.
Hundred Acre founder, Bridget Gilmour, is delighted to launch the new website: "The last six and a half years have been...
